He received professional education from the Decorators Department of the Riga Secondary School of Applied Arts (1965) and the Textile Art Department of the Art Academy of Latvia (1972). Having started with textile art, he develops vision in watercolour painting, occasionally also focuses on graphics, design graphics, poster and interior design, creates ambitious wall and ceiling paintings. Participates in exhibitions since 1969. He was a participant of the watercolour painting triennials of six Baltic Republics (1977–1992), organized an exhibition the Baltic Way (1992) and several watercolour exhibitions (1994–1997). Together with the "young, rebellious" of his generation – J. Borg, L. Šēnbergs, A. Priedīte, A. Ieviņš, later with A. Breži, O. Pētersons, J. Putrāms he has organized important group exhibitions, as well as more than 10 solo exhibitions: member of the Artists' Union of Latvia since 1975. year. He won the Artists' Union of Latvia Award for the tapestry Brotze's motifs in 1978, the Artists' Union of Latvia Award in the nomination Solo Exhibition in one of the Galleries of Latvia (2003). The works are in the collections of the Latvian National Museum of Art and the Museum of Decorative Arts and Design, In the collection of the Artists' Union of Latvia, the Cēsis History and Art Museum, the Madona District Art Museum, the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow, the Jane Vorhees Zimmerli Museum of Ratger University (New Brunswick, New Jersey, USA), private collections in Latvia and worldwide.
