He received his professional education in the Janis Rozentals Riga Art High school (1958 - 1965) and in the Painting and Stage Design Department of the Latvian Art Academy (1965 – 1973). He has been contributing to exhibitions since 1968. He was a stage designer at the National Theatre, Art Theatre, Valmiera Theatre and the Latvian National Opera Theatre. He has also been a book illustrator and has excelled in poster art. Since 1975 he is a member of the Latvian Artists’ Union. In 1989 he received an title of „ Honourary artist of the Latvian SSR”. He has had solo shows in Riga, Cēsis, Jurmala, Ventspils, Berlin. Alexandria. Pittsburgh (the USA), Milan, Rome. Stockholm. Chicago. He has received numerous awards including, diplomas from the Ministry of Culture for his paintings (1976 and 1977), and his posters (1978, 1980), silver and bronze medals in the International Poster Biennial in Lahti, Finland (1981 and 1983), a Faber Castell premium at the 2nd International Young Artists Drawing Triennial in Nuremberg, Germany (1982), an Honourary diploma „Artists Society International Art Achievement Awards Exhibition” at the international Art exhibition in San Francisko, the USA (1987).In 1989 he was awarded the title of the Merited artist. His artworks can be found in National Art Museum of Latvia, Ludwig Modern Art Museum in Cologne, Germany, Cremon Fund, the USA, New-Orleans Art Museum, the USA and in private collections in Latvia and abroad.
