Džemma Skulme

1925 - 2019

She received her professional education in the Monumental Painting Department of the Latvian Art Academy (1949). She also studied at the Petersburg Repin Art Institute and received a post-graduation degree in  Art Research (1955). She started  to contribute to exhibitions in 1952, was a member of the Latvian Artists’ Union since 1956. Her artworks can be found in the collections of the Latvian National Art Museum, Zimmeri Art museum in the USA, the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow,the Latvian Artists’ Union as well as in private collections in Latvia and abroad. In 1995 she received the Three-Star Order, and in 2019 the Purvitis award for the lifetime contribution to art.
