He received professional education from the Department of Decorative Design of liepaja Secondary School of Applied Arts (1953–1958) and the Department of Painting of the Art Academy of Latvia (1958–1964), diploma work "In the Garden" (supervisor Prof. Eduards Kalniņš). From 1978. Since 1992 he has worked as a drawing teacher at the Art Academy of Latvia, and since 1992 he is an assistant professor, professor from 1995, in 2000 - 2015 head of the Drawing Department. 2000 - 2016 Lecturer of preparatory courses at the Art Academy of Latvia. Since 2004 State Professor of the Art Academy of Latvia, professor of emeritus since 2016. Since 1965 he has been in  Stage designer of the Alunāns Theatre in Jelgava. Participates in exhibitions since 1966. Member of the Artists' Union of Latvia since 1970. Member of Jelgava Artists' Society since 2009.
