Laima Eglīte
1945
Is a graduate of the J. Rozentāls Riga Secondary School of Art and the Painting Department of the Latvian Academy of Art. She has regularly participated in exhibitions of painting in Latvia and abroad since 1969. For many years now, she has been involved in book illustration and film animation for the Dauka Studio.
In 1982 L. Eglīte received the Pastariņš Prize for the book “Great Day of the Underwater Kids” by Viks (Zemūdens bara lielā diena: fantastiska pasaka bērniem un pieaugušajiem. R.: Liesma, 1985). In 1990 she participated in the 4th International Artist’s Book Triennial in Vilnius. In 2007 a book illustrated by L. Eglīte “How To Conjure Up Snow: Poems” (Kā uzburt sniegu: dzejoļi. I. Samauska. R.: liels un mazs, 2006) was nominated for the Annual Prize for Book Publishing and the Jānis Baltvilks Prize. In 2009 and 2010 the book “The Hedgehog King” by I. Zandere (Karalis ezis. Illustrations: L. Eglīte, design: Ū. Laukmane. R.: liels un mazs, 2009) was also nominated for both prizes.
