He received his professional education in the Pedagogical Department of the Latvian Art Academy (1963 - 1971). He has been contributing to exhibitions since 1971 and has had over 20 solo exhibitions in Latvia and abroad. He is a member of the Latvian Artists’ Union since 1976, his artworks can be found in museums and private collections in Latvia and abroad. He is a professor Emeritus of the Latvian Art Academy and the head of its Latgale branch.
