A Draughtsman. Spring’10
24.11.2010 - 18.12.2010
This exhibition is two in one, which is topical today. The concept of it is artistically captured by the artist Viesturs Staņislavskis in the invitation to the exhibition showing 10 sharpened pencils ready for work. At the end of April the Art Academy will have the assessment of students’ drawings where the best draughtsmen will be selected for Boriss Bērziņš’ scholarship. The scholarship winners will be nominated in the gallery’s exhibition and their works will supplement the display. All ten pencils are in the colour of spring greenness. Say NO to winter! The Spring 2010 and Art Days have come. What are we going to see at the exhibition? There are winters by Dace Lielā, deep snow of the past winter has really inspired her. Jānis Purcens is under the spell of spring: in his work everything is fluttering in a weightless state and this is achieved by juxtaposing an interesting tone of green and pink. The exhibition has more to present, not only the processes of nature. Biruta Delle’s extraordinary images are really fascinating. They are seeking answers to the eternal questions: what are we and where are we going? Laima Bikše’s painting also invites us to think, but here it is the attitude to work that matters. We can think of a play house that is collapsing, and we can also reveal a lot of unexpected possibilities in life even in the ordinary objects around us. Andrejs Ameļkovičs had enough courage to talk to Australian aborigines, certainly, about woman. Has spring come into the Gallery? You should visit and see it.
