Anita Arbidāne. Rebirth. Paintings

30.11. 2022 - 7.01.2023

Painter's Anita Arbidāne’s exhibition „Rebirth” is on display in the gallery „Daugava” all december and is prolonged till 7th of January, 2023

This is what the artist writes about the exhibition and her painting:

The exhibition „Rebirth” is made up from the cycle of paintings done during the last eight years. It pays tribute to classical art values, realistic painting, Renaissance art and art beyond borders of the contemporary and conceptual.

The theme of the cycle presents interpretations of classical and religious myths as well as quatations from art history: Eve, Medusa, Leda, Lucretia, Three Graces, Dionysus’ Feast and others. So far my painting has been based on the profound and genuine interest in classical realistic painting, but art is also a play with complicated tasks, ability to view the serious seemingly light-mindedly. It accounts for the light humour that permeates the artworks of „Rebirth”.

Some of these works make us think about the state of drunkenness with an unusual look at reality, even a provocation with an image of woman as the main carrier of the messsage. Woman’s body is one of artistic expressions by means of which private and essential issues of  woman’s role, its changes, exploitation of her body and the female prime origin are being dealt with. The women portrayed in the paintings are coquettes, children, victims, demons and mothers. They are emancipated human beings capable of giving a smile to the agelong stereotypes and cliches as well as to themselves.

The time span during which these works were created has been long and saturated with events. While delving into my subjects I have depicted the accumulated experience  trying to look into the depth of my subconsciousness and adding a bit of irony.

Anita Arbidāne’s exhibition „Rebirth”  is in the gallery „Daugava”  in Ausekļa str. 1, Riga /entrance from Elizabetes str/ from November 30, 2022 to January 1, 2023.
