Laimdota Junkara

Painter Laimdota Junkara was born in 1951, in Riga. She has graduated from the Department of Pedagogy at the Art Academy of Latvia (1979), received a Master of Art (2002), is a member of the Artists’ Union of Latvia (1986). She has been participating in exhibitions since 1978. Since 1979 she has been living in Ventspils region, Ugāle.

One of Laimdota Junkaras’ areas of working in culture is doing research of her county. She is the author of several books on the history of Ugāle and Piltene parishes. She has been awarded for her research with Brastiņš Award (2002), the Ministry of Culture Award (2004) and received a number of different diplomas.

Her creative work in painting started with oil painting and in the 80s she has also worked in pastels and colored drawing. Later on, Junkara worked in watercolour creating geometrical or symbolic compositions. In recent years she has worked mostly in acrylic painting.
