Paintings
5.07.2023.-3.09.2023.
Solo shows of the well-known artist Dace Lielā are always looked forward to and attract many visitors. The artist depicts nature, which is a metaphor of the world for the Latvian public striving to understand it. The current exhibition also reflects natural processes where attention is primarily focused on the mood of the painted landscape. Paintings of Dace Lielā look like visions of the rhythm of nature and life never repeating itself.
The artist herself comments on her latest display: „ Every day may provide a visual surprise or revelation. A common landscape exists , only the seasonal changes alters it and makes it unique. In my memory everything mixes together, but the image remains and I start thinking whether to paint it or not”.
Randomly noticed scenes are depicted in a refined, subdued colour-scale: overgrown ponds, forest edges, the surface of flowing water, blossoming meadows, all that has created a notion about contemporary landscape aethetics in the viewers’ mind and we turn to intact, natural landscape intriguing in any season. It seems that we are out for a walk together with the artist and looking at the world through her eyes.
Dace Lielā says :„ My paintings are created from memory. Painting like that, only essential things appear on canvas. Inessential ones disappear. A camera does not perceive the colour that I see.”
