THE COMET IS COMING!

17.07.2024.-24.08.2024.

Artist Ieva Iltneres mastery of exquisite aesthetics has few peers in Latvian art. She is one of the members of the legendary group "Gentle Fluctuations", an associate professor of the Latvian Art Academy, and her works can be found in prestigious art collections in Latvia and around the world.

Figurative compositions fascinate with tonal purity, minimalism and composure, which at the same time surprise with explosive plot depictions and their dose of drama. Under the title "The Comet is Coming!" a series of paintings by Iltnere, which were created starting from the 80s and reflects her highest pilotage.

The various emotional states expressed through the surfaces of the canvases by the sensitively modeled characters seem timeless and especially relevant in these troubled times. At the same time, it is also a story about human relations with the surrounding environment and the illusions we cherish about the "other" reality.

Iltner herself has called the particular approach to painting neorealism. It manifests not only amazing technical skills, but also the artist's love for design, fashion, architecture and art history.

Ieva Iltnere (1957) has graduated from the Riga School of Applied Arts and the Painting Department of the Art Academy of Latvia, receiving a gold medal. She has also aquired additional studies at the creative workshop led by Prof. Eduards Kalnins. She has been participating in exhibitions since 1977, having organized dozens of solo exhibitions. "Eight Rooms" (2007) in "Riga Gallery", was nominated for the prestigious Purvitis Award, also included in current display. In 2017, Iltnere received the Order of the Three Stars.
