Līga Skariņa

The Shape of Light

08.10.2014 - 01.11.2014

Combining ceramics with photography, Līga Skariņa creates artworks that impart lightness, mood and feeling to her ceramic stories in which the ancient material shows contemporary interpretations. She uses white stoneware and porcelain as a basic material. The light colour and the nuanced surfaces result from the particular ceramic technology used.

The works on view in her solo exhibition reflect the artist’s liking to observe the principle of thematic and technical solutions. These converge depending on the choice of material, which in her case is clay. She feels that nature and material possess a hypnotizing energy and serve as an inexhaustible source of inspiration. But expressing feelings from the soul requires one to restrain one’s creative impulses. In ceramics everything is determined by the relationship between the artist, idea and material.
