Andris Eglītis
Transition
17.08.2016 - 01.10.2016
transition from a plane to space
transition from objectivity to the abstract
transition from real to virtual
transition from an observation to a proclamation
transition from material to immaterial
transition from banal to the beautiful
transition from a painted surface to a complete painting
transition from a mechanical product to an arrangement based on the sensitivity of the hand and the eye
these transitions work back and forth in both directions without ever stopping and without the opportunity to figure out exactly at which point of the transition we are
ae
The transition from plane to space and objectivity to the abstract in painting is one of the main issues the artist Andris Eglītis deals with. His solution is reflected in Eglītis’ new solo-show “Transition”. Although the first ideas for this series date back to last autumn, the artist’s most active period of working has been in the past few months. The paintings created are colour gradients, both plane and space, both reality and abstraction.
Andris Eglītis is interested in the omnifarious nature of objects – a painting simply being colour on canvas, an abstract form and maybe even the sky. It is the transition from one particular state of perception, awareness or understanding to another, which the artist tries to incorporate in his creative work.
