Woman – Model , Image. Woman – Content and Form.

26.10.2022. - 26.11.2022.

Everything about the exhibition is summarized in its title. For countless years woman has been a source of inspiration to artists, beginning in the stone age with the first artworks on the cave walls and the very first known sculptural work: the Venera of Villendorf, a 11,1 cm tall stone figurine found in one of the ancient burial grounds near Villendorf in Austria. It was sculpted around  25000 years before our era.

The exhibition in the Gallery doesn’t offer  insight into ancient art.  Paintings, prints and sculptures on display have been created by contemporary artists  Frančeska Kirke, Normunds Brasliņš, Maija Tabaka, Baiba Vegnere, Dace Lielā as well as the classics Felicita Pauļuka and Biruta Baumane who have displayed several outstanding nude paintings. Woman as an eternal subject not just a model  also appeared  in the paintings of Jānis Pauļuks and Leonids Āriņš. The exhibition is open and anticipating  viewers from 26.10 to 26.11 in the Gallery Daugava,Riga Ausekļa street 1./  the entrance is from Elizabetes street/ www.galerijadaugava.lv
